About this guide

In Positive Tutors, our tutors must be ready to help our students wholistically

  1. from the TRIAL CLASS: win the student's trust and heart

  2. To their FIRST DAY with you: guide them through our rules, standards and expectations

  3. Up to their REGULAR CLASSES: continue learning, track progress and update parents to keep them happy with you and book more classes.


In this guide, you will be guided through all the steps, tools and rules in this process.

TRIAL CLASS

Before the class:
  • check your Booking Calendar for student's details: name, what they want to study

    • if you don't see details, please message Positive Tutors Admin on the chat box


Step 1: "On time's late, early's on time!"

Be at your Zoom link 5 minutes before the class. Students know to be there 3 minutes before the class.


Step 2: Start Positive (2 minutes)
  • When the class starts make sure that the parent is there to build rapport with both them and the student.

  • Thank the student and parent for booking you and enourage them to continue their subscription.


Give them a positive quote of the day from this link.


Step 3: Trial Class Introduction (5 minutes)
  • Introduce yourself to the student and parent.

  • Explain that this trial class will help them choose the best tutor for the rest of their subscription.

  • Have the student and parent introduce themselves


Step 4: Gauging (7 minutes)
  • Ask the parent/student about their

    • Goals: why do they want to get tutoring

    • Expectations: What do they need? School review? or advanced learning? Homework help?

  • Assure them that all of these goals are possible in our platform and with YOU as their tutor.


Step 5: Initial Assessment and Sample Class (30 minutes)

You may ask the parent (for young students) to leave the class for a bit.

  • Know the Grade level of the student

  • Pick a material from the curriculum or from the sample class materials and start with the first page.

  • If material is too easy, jump to the next material or level.

  • It is the tutor's prerogative to assign an level (initial) with the student.

  • Take note of the student's strengths and weaknesses.


Step 6: Class Summary and Recommendation (10 minutes)

Ask the parent to come back

  • Give feedback to the parent and student about the sample class.

    • Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Entertain questions from the student or parent

  • Recommend YOUR PERSONAL plan for the child and reiterate how you could help them achieve their goals.


Step 7: End Positive (1 minute)
  • End with the same positive quote from the beginning of the class.

  • Ask the student to submit feedback from your class.

  • Re-introduce your name and say your goodbyes.


Step 8: After the Class
  • Accomplish the Lesson Summary

  • On your booking calendar, mark your student "Checked-in".

First Day of Regular Class

Step 1: "On time's late, early's on time!"

Be at your Zoom link 5 minutes before the class. Students know to be there 3 minutes before the class.


Step 2: Start Positive

1 to 2 minutes

When the class starts make sure that the parent is there to build rapport one more time. Thank the student and parent for booking you once more and hopefully for the rest of their subscription.


Give them a positive quote of the day from this link.


Step 3: Classroom Rules

5 minutes

Positive Tutors sends these classroom rules to parents and students. Reiterate these rules and what we expect from the students and parents.

  • Students must be in the Zoom link at least 3 minutes before the class.

  • Class time starts and ends on time. Classes cannot be extended in case of late students.

  • Students MUST turn on their cameras during the whole duration of the class. Tutors have the right to choose to suspend the class if they feel uncomfortable when students turn off their cameras.

  • As much as possible, parents must be present a few minutes before each class ends for a quick summary report about the class.

  • For any questions and concerns about your class, students may communicate with you through our website chat box.


Step 4: Open Lines of Communication

5 minutes

  • Teach students to communicate on our website through the chat box. Ask them to send you a message.

  • Students/parents and tutors must follow each other's profiles on the website.

Students/parents' profiles are sometimes in private mode. If so, teach them to make their profiles public and ask them to follow you and send you a message. Use screen sharing tool on Zoom to make the process clear and easy.

Step 5: Class Planning

5 minutes

  • Establish on which topic you will start and where you want to lead them.

  • Ask the student as many questions as you can to help you create a better teaching technique that is according to their needs.


Step 6: Class Proper

20 minutes

With the remaining time, conduct the speaking assessment test.


Step 7: Class Summary

1 to 2 minutes

A few minutes before the class ends, ask the parent to be in the meeting and make a quick class summary report to both of the parent and student.


Step 8: End Positive

1 minute

End with the same positive quote from the beginning of the class.


Step 9: Help the Parent Book Your Next Classes

1 to 2 minutes

To make sure you are booked, remind them to book your next classes. Let them know that withouth booking ahead, there is no guarantee of your availability to them.


Here's how to book classes as a parent/student.


Step 10: Submit Lesson Summary and Mark Student "Checked-in"
  • On your booking calendar, mark your student "Checked-in".


Regular Classes (2nd Day and Beyond)

Step 1: "On time's late, early's on time!"

Be at your Zoom link 5 minutes before regular classes. Students know to be there 3 minutes before the class.


Send a message to your student through the chat box.

"Hi! I'm in our regular Zoom link. If you need the link, here it is! (Send link)"

Step 2: Start Positive

1 to 2 minutes

Warm up with the student and give them a positive quote of the day from this link.


Step 3: Class Proper

45 minutes

Conduct the class.

Step 4: Class Summary

1 to 2 minutes

A few minutes before the class ends, ask the parent to be in the meeting (IF POSSIBLE) and make a quick class summary report to both of the parent and student.
